Smoke Break

I'm taking a little "smoke-break" at work to blog and get something off my chest. I never intended for this to turn into the Roo Report. This blog was originally intended to be the Gerber Gazette -- a running log of our journeys. I don't know how or why it turned into the Roo Report. I just know that Rylee has been at the shore for four days, and I'm waiting patiently... with open arms... for Gamma and PopPop to bring my heart back. All the love I can muster is with her... whereever she is... and I feel completely soul-less without her. How does that happen?

As I told Carol this weekend, "my kid's a rockstar!" She certainly has captured a lot of people's attention. Thank you for continuing to read about her progress. I promise to try to write a little more about Mom and Dad (formerly Carry & Chris), Marley and Simon "Poodle" in the future!

P.S. Poodle hasn't been giving us much fodder for the tabloids recently. I apologize. Hopefully, he's up to his old antics soon!

Advice for Roo

Because I believe in Premonitions (don’t ask!), I’m keeping a running log of tidbits and advice for Rylee -- things I feel it’s important to impart to her. I’ll add to the list as ideas come to me –

Defend yourself and your ideals. Be respectful, but speak your mind.

Play in the rain. Jump in the puddles.

Help lost puppies find their way home. You never know when you'll need a stranger to help you find your way.

Never lose your courage. Show no fear.

"Just a Steel Town Girl on a Saturday night, lookin' for the fight of her life..."

Watch black and white films.

Read Shakespeare.

Marry someone your Dad likes.

Pets aren’t friends, they’re relatives (I think you already understand that!)

Accessories make an outfit.

Embrace individuality.

Celebrate your gifts.

It’s ok to read trashy tabloids.

Dance when you’re happy. Cry when you’re sad. Shout when you’re angry.

Keep your heart and mind open to all opportunities.

Broken hearts heal.

Think before you speak. You can’t always take things back. Once they’re out. They’re out.

Why listen to lullabies? We don’t.

You changed everything. Never forget that you made a difference in the world the second you were born.

Several things make your Mom truly happy. Your laugh. Well worn jeans. A hot Starbucks latte. Unexpected 80s movies on cable. Cuddling with your Dad on Sundays. Fall.
